During one of my frantic Google-sessions before our trip to Las Vegas this June for our wedding, I came across the concept of the Lobsicle. A lobster popsicle/lollipop hybrid, a Lobsicle is a battered and deep fried lobster tail on a stick. I sent Dan the link, and we vowed that we would hunt down the mighty Lobsicle – for science you see. It turned out that we didn’t have to hunt very far, as Lobster ME (aka purveyor of all things lobster) was located right across Las Vegas Boulevard from our suite in The Cosmopolitan, at the Miracle Mile Shops in Planet Hollywood. This made it the perfect choice for a lazy, newlywed lunch.
The menu at Lobster ME is, as the name suggests, mainly lobster based. Lobster based fast food, if you will. After a cheeky bit of slot gambling in Planet Hollywood, we hit Lobster ME and did our usual trick of ordering a bunch of things to share. I’m really terrible for getting food envy (you know, where your dining companion orders something and then you’re filled with regret that you ordered something else?) so I’m always happy when Dan suggests we just share some stuff.
We ordered a selection of items from the menu, and plonked ourselves down at a pair of bar style seats. Though it was pretty busy, we didn’t wait long for our food and everyone we encountered was really friendly. There was some kind of skateboarding thing going on on the TV behind the counter, which kept us entertained while we waited.
First up we have the fabled Lobsicle. a deep fried battered lobster tail on a skewer, with a lemon wedge for squeezing and pot of butter for dipping. This was fried to perfection, with crispy bubbly batter surrounding juicy sweet lobster. Can someone just like, mail me one now please?
Next up we have Dan’s choice, a Maine style lobster roll. Chilled lobster meat with mayonnaise and a touch of spices, in a grilled roll, again with a wedge of lemon for squeezing and a pot of coleslaw for eating. He says that the pot of coleslaw was “nice” – I’m just not into coleslaw (I know I know…) so I can’t really comment on that one.
My personal favourite, the lobster macaroni cheese… creamy cheddar sauce with elbow macaroni, topped with panko breadcrumbs and a pile of of lobster meat. This was incredibly good, and set me off on a seafood/cheese pasta kick for a good month or so.
Finally, not the most exciting thing I agree, but worthy of a mention given that these were the closest we came to proper chips in Vegas – a generous side of beer battered chips. Beer batter makes everything better, am I right?
Lobster ME can be found in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, 3663 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Suite 435 Las Vegas, NV 89109. There’s also a location at The Venetian, and they have a super cute food truck too. Like Vegas didn’t have enough cool stuff already…
