Living in Leeds, and working in the city centre has a big lunchtime advantage in the shape of Trinity Kitchen. Alongside the permanent fixtures (Tortilla, Chicago Rib Shack, Pho, PizzaLuxe, Chip + Fish, and 360 Champagne & Cocktails) each month brings a selection of temporary pitches, hosting some of the best British street food these drizzly lands have to offer. You know, without the drizzle. ’cause it’s indoors. MAGICAL.
In May this year, The Cheese Truck appeared as if by magic (a magical cherry picker lift type jobber, that is) and answered all my cheesy lunchtime prayers. Seasonal, locally sourced, free range produce… cute yellow truck… friendly chatty staff… all that good stuff. But most importantly, LOOK at that grilled cheese.
That my friends, is a Queso Chihuahua cheese, spicy chorizo and rocket grilled cheese. Crunchy and salty and rich and oozing with melty good stuff, I thought I’d died and gone to grilled cheese heaven.
Oh yeah, and they know a thing or two about chips as well. Chips and cheese is, obviously, a great idea. Chips and cheese and cheese sauce, where there’s actual lovely cheese involved is another thing entirely. No flavourless plastic cheese here, nope. Totally burned my mouth on this due to greed and a distinct lack of patience. No regrets. Well one regret, that I didn’t try one of their Stilton and dark chocolate brownies. My mum has this weird thing about cheese on chocolate chip cookies (no really, and it’s pretty good!) and I was wondering if it’d be in the same vein as that.
During The Cheese Truck’s stay in Leeds, I also tried one of their Rosary goats cheese, honey, walnut and rosemary butter grilled cheeses. Grilled cheesus. Grilled Jesus. I’ll confess to being unable to finish that one because not only are their portions massive, but that sandwich was SO rich I started to fear for my life. So I shared it with Dan. Obviously.
Aching for your return, oh mighty cheese truck. If only so I can try one of those Stilton brownies. And erm, some more cheesy chips. And erm, another chorizo and Chihuahua grilled cheese… come back soon?
